What Is Padel?

Padel is a racket sport played in doubles on an enclosed court roughly a third the size of a tennis court. It combines elements of tennis and squash the ball can be played off the glass walls, points are fast, rallies are long, and the emphasis is on placement and strategy over raw power. It's one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and it's easy to see why: it's social, accessible, and addictive from the very first rally.

Getting Started: The Basics

The Court

  • Enclosed by glass walls and metal fencing
  • Played 2v2 (doubles only — no singles)
  • Roughly 20m x 10m, about a third the size of a tennis court

The Equipment

  • A solid, stringless paddle (no strings, just a perforated face)
  • A depressurized ball slightly softer and smaller than a tennis ball
  • Comfortable, breathable activewear and court shoes with good grip

The Serve

  • Always underhand
  • The ball must bounce once before you strike it
  • Served diagonally, just like tennis

Scoring

  • Identical to tennis: 15, 30, 40, game
  • Matches are typically best of three sets

Tips & Tricks

For Beginners

  1. Master the wall first. The glass isn't your enemy — it's your ally. Let the ball come off the back wall before returning it; rushing your shots off the glass is the #1 beginner mistake.
  2. Stay close to the net. Unlike tennis, padel rewards net play. Move forward as a team whenever possible the net is where points are won.
  3. Underhand serve, every time. Practice a consistent, controlled serve rather than power placement wins more points than speed.
  4. Communicate constantly. Padel is a doubles game through and through. Call your shots, cover for your partner, and move as a unit.

Leveling Up

  1. Learn the bandeja and vibora. These overhead defensive smashes let you control the point without giving your opponents an easy attacking ball essential once you're past the beginner stage.
  2. Play the lob. When under pressure, a well-placed lob over your opponents' heads buys you time to reset your position at the net.
  3. Use the walls offensively. Advanced players use side and back walls to create sharp, unexpected angles that are hard to return.
  4. Positioning over power. At every level, padel rewards smart court coverage and shot selection far more than brute force.

On-Court Etiquette

  • Warm up briefly before starting your first point
  • Retrieve stray balls for neighboring courts when it's safe to do so
  • Shake hands (or tap paddles) at the end of every match
  • Dress the part on and off the court, this is where style meets sport

Why We Love Padel

Padel is a game of connection. It's rarely played alone, which makes it one of the most social racket sports out there a match is as much about the laughs between points as the points themselves. That's exactly the spirit behind theNOYAclub: performance wear built for the court, but designed to carry you from the final point straight to the clubhouse.
